Pomerol

Pomerol

Pomerol is the smallest of the main top wine regions in Bordeaux, covering an area that is about three kilometers wide and four kilometers long.

Although many Pomerol wines now reach very high prices, on an equal footing with the best rated wines from Bordeaux, there is no official Pomerol wine classification.
However, the region contains a property widely considered equivalent to the premier cru: Château Pétrus.

The region was recognized as a distinct wine region in addition to Saint-Émilion and the Grande Libournais region by the French government in 1923 and received AOC status in 1936.
Although it is now one of the most prestigious AOCs in Bordeaux, this situation it is relatively recent, dating from the second half of the 20th century, which is often cited as one of the reasons why Pomerol is not included in any of the Bordeaux classifications.
